London based artist James Bell using the performance of dance to dictate the brush strokes and lines that meet the canvas. Whilst painting he uses natural impulses to direct his movements, balance, speed and pressure. He has no preconceived idea of what he is aiming to create and leaves the interpretation of the works up to the viewer. His work is often created within short bursts of time, the work is not retouched after a performance. His tools consist of canvas or board, a kettle (for water), a few bowls for mixing paint, acrylics and brushes. James is never seen at a performance without his kettle, which offers an quirky and unusual signature to his performances.
